COURSE INFORMATION

Howdy! The International Transfer Pricing (ITP) course will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays in 290 Wehner, from 2:20-3:35 p.m. Our first class will therefore be Wednesday January 17, 2007. Please email me at leden@tamu.edu if you are registering for this course.

We will be using the Mays Webportal for this course.  In late December or early January, I will be contacting all students who have registered for this class to give them the password to access the web portal. Students will need to log on, fill in some information about themselves (with a head-and-shoulders photo if you have a digital one, otherwise I will take one the first day of class). The syllabus and the course readings will be posted on the portal and accessible for download. You will need to prepare the first week's readings before the first class.

This class is also cross-listed as a fourth year Honors Elective in Management (MGMT 489). If you are thinking of taking the class as an honors elective, please note that students must have the permission of the instructor (myself) prior to registration. Because the course is primarily for masters students, undergraduates should only register for this course if they have taken one or more of the following three courses and received an A grade in the course: (1) MGMT 450, International Environment of Business, (2) FINC 445, International Finance, or (3) ACCT 445, International Accounting.

MODULE INFORMATION

This course is part of a new International Transfer Pricing Module being offered through the Mays Business School and the Bush School of Government and Public Service.

The ITP module requires a minimum of three courses (nine credit hours). My recommended courses for the ITP module are the following:

1. BUSH 629/MGMT667/IBUS667 - Multinational Enterprises
Spring 2007 - Mondays 9-11:50 in 1063 Allen

2. BUSH/MGMT/IBUS 689 - International Transfer Pricing
Spring 2007 - Mondays and Wednesdays 2:20-3:35 in 290 Wehner

3. I strongly recommend taking at least one Accounting course, before you graduate, for students with zero background in Accounting. In Spring 2007, I recommend students do ACCT 640, which is a graduate course that provides an introduction to accounting principles for non-Accounting students. Another possibility is ACCT 315, but graduate students will need permission to take it as a graduate class (normally, that involves getting the instructor's permission to take it as a 685 class, some extra work, and permission from your department head or dean).

4. If you have already had one class in Accounting, there are a variety of other options open to you. These include Prof. Kishore Gawande's International Trade Policy course, another Accounting course (for example, Income Tax by Profs. Clair Nixon or Connie Weaver), Prof. Julian Gaspar's International Finance course FINC 645, or a Risk Management course taught in Agricultural Economics, AGEC 622 with Profs McCarl and Richardson. We can discuss other options, based on your background and job interests after graduation.

5. I also recommend that first year Bush School students do a summer internship in transfer pricing. Having a summer internship in transfer pricing will be a big plus when you go on the job market the following year, because it means you already will have some experience in this area. Please let me know ASAP if you want my help with a transfer pricing summer internship.

6. Lastly, for masters and PhD students who are graduating in Spring 2007, if you do want a fulltime career in transfer pricing, please signal this to me no later than January 2007 so that I can help you with job placement after graduation.

I would be happy to talk to you about the transfer pricing class and/or module, selection of other classes, job prospects, etc, if you contact me at leden@tamu.edu

thanks! Lorraine Eden
